A 6 Day Rwanda Gorilla Safari starts and ends in Kigali, This gorilla trip will as usual start from Kigali International airport or from your Hotel in Kigali where you will be briefed by the tour guide before you will drive straight to Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee tracking and birding, then the next day you will drive back through Kigali and continue up to Volcanoes National Park where you will enjoying gorilla trekking trice.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali Airport
Arrive at Kigali airport where you will meet with our guide and set off for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, make stops at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest, dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House / Nyugwe Forest Lodge / Nyungwe Hill Top View Hotel.
Day 2: Guided nature walk
After breakfast go for a nature walk in the forest to see a variety of animals and birds species found here, which include the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. In this escorted walk, search for large groups of colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 in a group. OR you may opt to go chimp tracking. Then return late afternoon at your lodge as at day 1.
Day 3: Return to Kigali
In the morning immediately after breakfast return to Kigali City. Along the way, in Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Arrive Kigali City at lunchtime, have lunch and drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. Check in at Serena Kigali Hotel, Hotel Gorilla Kigali, Step Town Hotel.
Alternatively, we can drive direct to Volcanoes National park without coming back to Kigali
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking
Transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcans. The long waited for memorable activity, Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills, and swamps can be tough, and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours or the whole day in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort. Immediately after breakfast, with your parked lunch head to the forest to track those great giants. You spend one hour, take pictures with them. Dinner and overnight at Gorillas Nest Lodge, La Palme Hotel, Virunga Lodge / Mountain gorilla view /Kinigi Guest House
Day 5: Second Gorilla Trekking in Parc National des Volcans
With the previous day memories have breakfast, then set off in the forest for another Gorilla trekking. A thrilling trek through the refined foothills of the Virungas provides inspiring views in all directions. Then, suddenly, the trail enters the national park, engrossing trekkers in the strange closeness of the rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, and besieged with fresh spoor of the mountains’ elusive populations of buffalo and elephant.
Through gaps in the forest canopy, the marvelous peaks are sighted, easily easy to get to and among the uppermost in Africa, indicating an ascent. Gorilla trekking is quite strenuous but a worthwhile on encounter of these gentle giants. The enthusiasm of your coming across with these apes will wipe away your intricacy of the strenuous trek. Spend time watching gorillas, watch the adults feeding their young ones, brushing and resting as the youngsters play from vines in a pleasurably playful display. Dinner and overnight as at day 4.
Day 6: Departure
This day is reserved for your departure, although you may go for a city tour which includes shopping, depending on the flight schedule, transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
