This three days chimpanzee tracking tour will start and end in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city. On this tour, you will explore Nyungwe Forest National Park which is found in the southwestern part of the country, at the border with Burundi, to the south, and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The park hosts over 13 species of primates which include; chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkey, civet monkey, colobus monkey, golden monkey among others. There also a number of avian life including different species of birds, butterflies, and other species of animals.
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
On your arrival at Kanombe International Airport in Kigali where you will be met by a tour guide from Gorilla Expeditions Limited who will then drive to Nyugwe Forest National Park, which is home to over 13 species of primates, including chimpanzees which are regarded as the most intelligent and social apes next to humans sharing nearly 98% of their genetic code with human beings. You will have an en-route visit at Rwanda King’s Palace in Nyanza and also the Cultural Museum in Butare. You will have lunch en-route and proceed with your drive through the green tea fields which are scattered on the hillsides of the road and also small wooden houses all the way to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Arrive at the park in the late evening for dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House / Nyungwe Forest Lodge / Nyungwe Hill Top View Hotel.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park
Enjoy your breakfast at the lodge and transfer to the park headquarters of Nyungwe Forest National park for a short briefing before you enter the forest to track the man’s closest relatives, the chimpanzees. They are a fabulous fan to watch as they are playing on trees. The chimpanzee tracking activity usually takes between 1 – 6 hours depending on their movement in search of food and shelter in the forest. You will be allowed a maximum of one to spend with them while observing and photographing them. Since the park hosts a variety of primates, you will also view other primates including; hoest monkey, Rwenzori colobus, Silver monkey, owl-faced monkey, and the red-tailed monkey. After the tracking, return to the lodge late lunch then in the evening you will enjoy a guided nature walk in the forest, where you will have a chance to see a variety of animals and several bird species in the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Reserved for Departure
Enjoy morning breakfast at the lodge, and after that transfer back to Kigali take a last-minute shopping, and then continue to the Kigali International Airport to meet your departure flight back home.
