Life at an amazing Island on Lake Victoria

lake-victoriaJust imagine enjoying a safari near the lake, spending a night in a luxury cottage on the shores of lake Victoria, waking up to the singing of birds, getting a cup coffee and moving around to see sunrise on the lake.

You have paid more for a lake view room, yet when you step out, and look around, you see that you have an amazing view of the lake on all sides! You think you are dreaming and look again, only to understand that it is not a fantasy! While you were sleeping, the piece of land you were staying on had carved away from the main land and is currently floating on the lake!

Despite the fact that the safari story is imaginary, the 20 acres of land curving away between Gaba and Namuwongo is totally true! It even has a name: Jaja Mirembe.

I remember when we were at school and during religious studies, one of the holy verses referring to the signs of the “day of reckoning” refered to that the earth underneath our feet will open up and separate! I wonder whether we are seeing that day or it is nature getting back to us.

It is unfortunate that we continue talking about taking a move to protect our quickly dilapidating environment, however with regards to action, complex legislations, that frequently protect a group of people, become barriers towards achieving our goals.

An example is the issue of banning plastic bags. An era has officially grown up while the debate is still continuing, for them; they know no alternative to wrapping everything except from in a plastic bag that eventually finds its way to the fertile soils of our land.

I was watching a documentary about how some European nations are testing their fish meat on regular basis. This is to verify they are toxic substance free.

For sure, it is a confirmed fact that with the increasing amount of garbage disposal in the water bodies in addition to other pollutants, fish that eat these, get to be toxic and when consumed by people, this toxin is also discharged in our digestive system and can cause serious harm.

This is definitely a bad news for all those who are substituting the more harm red meat with the healthier fish choice.

As much as I love the idea of a floating island that reminds me numerous Hollywood movies, and the thought of waking up in another harbor every day, as much as I worry that this separation and many such phenomena are really a shocking result of human manipulation of the environment.

I am sharing a sublime quote that makes so much sense: “Reflect upon the inner realities of the universe, the mystery wisdom involved, the enigmas, the inter-relationships, the rules that govern all.
For all part of the universe is joined with every other part by ties that are very powerful and admit of no imbalance, nor any slackening whatever.”
