Uganda is in high gear of developing sports tourism. It appears that it is taking trend with promoting regional events in Kabale, sponsorship of Golf competition by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) to private companies sponsoring basketball team.
Uganda Tourism Board in association with Sports Tourism International (STI) and tourism stakeholders launch of the Source of The Nile Corporate Challenge.
The Challenge that will take place from 28th to 30th August is running under a theme; “Opening the Potential of Sports Tourism in the country”.
For many years, African tourism has been mainly based on wildlife and natural resources.
With time, the need to guarantee that local people advantage from tourism has been identified. Sports Tourism International (STI) has gone a notch higher and would like local people profiting, but also to guarantee their active cooperation.
One of the country’s main tourism destinations is Jinja, the un- disputed ‘Adventure Capital of East Africa’. Thanks to the Source of the Nile, this attract ‘adrenalin addicts’ from different parts of the world gives water sport activities, for example, whitewater rafting, speed boating, canoeing, bungee jumping and also quad biking and horse riding. With its mix of activities and numerous lodgings, Jinja is a perfect location for a yearly sports tourism event.
More than 100 corporate groups are expected to attend. The members will incorporate corporate from Uganda and the East African nations, Nigeria, South Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia.
The Source of the Nile Corporate Challenge (SNCC) activities include: a birding race, quad biking, football, volleyball, netball, golf, swimming gala, kayaking/vessel regatta.
Sports Tourism International (STI) is a private activity championing the promotion of sport tourism as one of the key tourism products in Africa.
